La presente Norma contiene i requisiti specifici per la costruzione e la valutazione dei sistemi elettrici a sicurezza intrinseca, tipo di protezione 'i', destinati ad essere utilizzati, in tutto o in parte, in luoghi in cui è richiesto l'uso di apparati di gruppo I, II o III. La presente Norma integra e modifica i requisiti generali della Norma EN/IEC 60079-0 ed i requisiti relativi alla sicurezza intrinseca della Norma EN/IEC 60079-11. Nei casi in cui un requisito della presente Norma sia in conflitto con un requisito della Norma EN/IEC 60079-0 o della Norma EN/IEC 60079-11, il requisito della presente Norma ha la precedenza. La presente Norma integra la Norma EN/IEC 60079-11, le cui prescrizioni si applicano agli apparecchi elettrici usati nei sistemi elettrici a sicurezza intrinseca. I requisiti installativi dei sistemi del gruppo II o del gruppo III progettati in accordo la presente Norma sono specificati nella Norma EN/IEC 60079-14.
Le variazioni di rilievo rispetto alla precedente edizione sono:
- l'estensione del campo d'applicazione dal Gruppo II ai Gruppi I, II e III;
- introduzione del livello di protezione 'ic';
- l'aggiunta di requisiti per i cavi;
- il riferimento alla Norma EN/IEC 60079-11 per i collegamenti di uscita dei circuiti intrinsecamente sicuri;
- le prescrizioni per la valutazione di un sistema intrinsecamente sicuro esteso e chiaro per quanto riguarda il livello di protezione 'ic';
- l’introduzione di sistemi predefiniti con l’unione dei requisiti di sistema per FISCO dalla Norma EN/IEC 60079-27;
- l'aggiunta di requisiti per semplici sistemi a sicurezza intrinseca contenenti sia induttanze che capacità concentrate;
- l’aggiunta di un metodo per verificare i parametri elettrici dei cavi;
- le ulteriori informazioni per l'uso di apparecchi semplici nei sistemi.
La presente Norma sostituisce la Norma CEI EN 60079-25:2008-04 che rimane applicabile fino al 01-10-2013.
La presente Norma soddisfa i requisiti essenziali della direttiva 94/9/CE.
La presente Norma é annullata e sostituita dalla Nuova edizione, CEI EN IEC 60079-25:2023-02 (CEI 31-79), tuttavia rimane applicabile fino al 09-09-2025.

International Classification for Standards (ICS) is an international classification system for technical standards.

The ICS is a hierarchical classification organized on three levels.

Level 1 covers the main fields of activity in standardization, e.g. road vehicle engineering, agriculture, metallurgy.

Each field has a two-digit notation, e.g.

  43    Road Vehicle Engineering

The main fields are subdivided into groups (level 2). The notation of a group consists of the field notation and a three-digit group number, separated by a point, e.g.

  43.040    Road vehicle systems

Some groups are further divided into sub-groups (level 3). The notation of a sub-group consists of the group notation and a two-digit number, separated by a point, e.g.

  43.040.20 Lighting, signaling and warning devices
